In this clip, WJHG's Matt Galka discusses Florida's decision not to appeal a federal court order currently blocking parts of a state omnibus antiabortion-rights law (HB 1411) from taking effect. Planned Parenthood filed a lawsuit against the measure in June.
Galka explains that the injunction blocks provisions in the law that would cut funding from abortion providers and subject abortion providers to new document review requirements. According to Galka, while Florida already bans funding for abortion care, the law, if enforced, could put "other health care programs ... at a disadvantage because of the lack of funds."
Planned Parenthood's Kim Diaz comments, "For us, this means that we're going to continue to provide high-quality health care services to those communities that need it the most; to low-income communities that unfortunately don't have this constant access to reproductive health care." According to Diaz, the "money that goes to [sexually transmitted infections] testing and treatment, to contraception services, to comprehensive sexual health education programs, all of that remains in place" (Galka, WJHG, 8/2).
