Marissa Silver, a reporter with Coastal Television's "Your Alaska Link," shares the Alaska Supreme Court's decision to strike down a state law that required a minor's parent to be notified of her decision to seek abortion care.

Silver explains, "Planned Parenthood says the law would requir[e] a woman under the age of 18 to go through a complicated legal process in order to persuade a judge to allow her to have an abortion without parental involvement," forcing her to delay abortion care or carry the pregnancy to term.
Jessica Cler, Alaska public affairs manager for Planned Parenthood Votes Northwest, praises the ruling. Noting that the "law put some of the most vulnerable teens at risk and prevented them from accessing the care that they need," Cler says the state Supreme Court's ruling "will now ensure that our young people are protected and able to access safe medical care" (Silver, "Your Alaska Link," Coastal Television, 7/25).
