KUTV/KEYE's Adele Uchida covers a Texas proposal that will require fetal tissue to be buried or cremated. According to Uchida, abortion-rights supporters said the proposal is "just another attempt to make abortion difficult to get in Texas."
Former Texas Sen. Wendy Davis (D) said the proposal "opens up an opportunity for the government to keep records on women who are seeking abortion." Calling it a "very dangerous precedent to set," Davis said she thought the rule would be challenged in court if finalized.
Separately, Heather Busby, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Texas, said the proposed rule "demonstrates the hostility that Texas has towards women." Busby, who was at the state capitol protesting the Hyde Amendment, explained how the proposed rule disproportionately affects low-income women. "The state has callously ... asserted that there is no financial impact, but we all know that that is not true," she said (Uchida, KUTV/KEYE, 9/29).
