In this infographic, the Guttmacher Institute tracks recent trends in state abortion laws. According to Guttmacher, states enacted 334 abortion restrictions between 2011 and July 2016, accounting for about one-third of the total number of abortion restrictions enacted since Roe v. Wade.
The researchers found that during the first half of 2016, state lawmakers proposed 1,256 measures related to reproductive health care and rights, including 445 provisions aimed at curbing access to abortion care. Overall, 17 states by June had passed 46 antiabortion-rights measures. However, Guttmacher also found that states this year have enacted 22 measures aimed at expanding or protecting women's reproductive rights or access to reproductive health care (Nash et al., Guttmacher Institute, 7/21).
