NBC2 News' Heather Turco covers arguments before the Florida Supreme Court regarding an injunction against a 24-hour mandatory delay law (HB 633). According to Turco, the state Supreme Court previously issued a temporary injunction against the law and is now weighing whether to extend the order until a lower court hears the underlying case.
Turco said in the lawsuit, the "American Civil Liberties Union [ACLU] insists the rule is designed to shame women by forcing them to make two clinic visits," while the state claims that the delay is reasonable. During arguments earlier this week, Julia Kaye, an attorney for ACLU, explained that the law "prevents some women from obtaining abortions" and "double[s] the harassment that a woman faces upon entering the clinic" (NBC2 News, 11/1).
