Fox 13's Matt McDonald reports on a ruling by a panel of the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that blocks Utah Gov. Gary Herbert (R) to cutting funding from Planned Parenthood. According to McDonald, Herbert moved to block funding from the organization after an antiabortion-rights group last year released a series of misleading videos targeting Planned Parenthood.
McDonald explains the court ruled that "Gov. Herbert overstepped his bounds, acting on personal feelings, instead of in the best interests of Utah citizens." Planned Parenthood attorney Peggy Tomsic states, “It is a decision that sets a clear boundary … [Herbert’s] conservative, [antiabortion-rights] stance demonstrated his personal motivation for punishing Planned Parenthood.” Further, according to McDonald, the court noted that the antiabortion-rights group's videos "have been widely discredited" and stated that they are "'unproven and in fact false'" (Winslow/McDonald, Fox 13, 7/12).
