In this clip, RTV6's Katie Heinz discusses a new social medial campaign launched in reaction to a harmful Indiana law (HB 1337) that bans abortion care based on the sex of the fetus or a fetal disability diagnosis, among other restrictions.
According to Heinz, the social movement, "Periods for Pence," urges women to voice their opposition to the law by sharing details about their menstrual cycle with the governor. The Facebook page has more than 19,000 "likes," and several thousand supporters are expected to attend a women's rights rally scheduled to take place in Indiana on Saturday.
Kelly Kerr, a Periods for Pence supporter, said the ability "to participate in the discussion and the dissent online" over the "draconian" law "is really a great opportunity."
Citing a report on Yahoo.com, Heinz notes that the Indiana movement has inspired a similar strategy among abortion-rights supporters in Poland. Advocates there are protesting the prime minister's support for a complete abortion ban in the country (RTV6, 4/5).
