In this clip, Fox 17 News' Michele DeSelms covers legislation (HB 4787, HB 4830) passed last week in the Michigan House that would penalize individuals who coerce a woman into receiving an abortion. The bills now proceed to the state Senate.
According to Fox News 17, liberal lawmakers say the bill is redundant and note that women are already protected under existing laws. Commenting via phone, state Rep. Jon Hoadley (D) says, "We have a thousand other things we could be doing, but instead we took up debate time on the floor to pass a bill that is redundant, that ... solves a hypothetical problem. It doesn't address the real pressing needs that Michigan women and Michigan residents across the state are facing" (Fox 17 News, 3/24).
