This map, from Bloomberg Business, highlights the rapid decline in abortion access in the United States since 2011. According to a Bloomberg News analysis, roughly 31 clinics are closing each year, marking the fastest rate of decline ever recorded. Overall, since 2011, at least 162 abortion providers in 35 states have closed or stopped offering abortion care.
The Bloomberg investigation found that more than 25 percent of the clinic closures were driven by regulations that made it too costly or logistically impossible for abortion providers to remain open. Other factors contributing to clinic closures include changing demographics, industry consolidation, lower demand and physician retirements (Deprez, Bloomberg Business, 2/24).
