This infographic, released with a new Guttmacher Institute study, shows the increase in use of long-acting reversible contraception among U.S. women between 2002 and 2012.
According to the study, 2.4% of U.S. women used either a contraceptive implant or an intrauterine device in 2002, while 11.6% did so in 2012. The study also noted that the implementation of the Affordable Care Act's contraceptive coverage requirements (PL 111-148) — which had not yet taken effect when the study data was collected — likely will increase access to and use of IUDs (Guttmacher Institute release, 10/8)
